Johnson LIES about reducing taxes.

In a recent campaign flier, Tara Johnson – Padesky claims to have provided healthcare and reduced taxes since being on the County Board. The truth is, that she has voted YES to increase the tax levy (total dollars spent) each year since 2001 and the average La Crosse County resident has seen a tax increase of $187 during Johnson’s tenure. That is NOT tax reduction.

Can you back this up with facts? Electronic access to the legislation and the voting record? Scanned documents? Just because you say it doesn't make it a fact.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue http://www.revenue.wi.gov/html/govpub.html shows that the total valuation (less tiffs) for La Crosse County in 2001 was $4.694 Billion. The total valuation (less tiffs) for La Crosse County in 2007 was $7.478 Billion. That is a 59.2% increase in valuation.

The La Crosse Tribune reported the county set the mill rate in October 2001 at $4.02/1000. The La Crosse Tribune reported the County set the mill rate last year, 2007 at $3.70/1000.

Do the math.

2000 100000 * 4.02/1000 == $402
2007 159200 * 3.70/1000 == $589

That is a total tax INCREASE of $187.
